RFP for Wi-Fi on San Francisco ferries

Golden Gate Ferries has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Wi-Fi service on board the ferries between San Francisco and Sausalito as well as Larkspur. Golden Gate Ferries will not pay any money for the deployment of the network, but will allow the Wi-Fi operator to charge for the service. The term of the contract is five years with two additional one-year options to extend the agreement. The deadline for submitting responses is 11 August 2009 at 14:00 Pacific Time.

The ferries are popular among residents in the Bay Area. Hundreds of commuters use them every day to avoid the traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. The ferries arrive at the Ferry Building which is only a five minute walk to the Financial District, and two blocks from the BART and Muni (metro) stations. Tourists use the ferries as well. I am certain that Wi-Fi will be a much appreciated service and I hope that Golden Gate Ferries find a good provider.
