Manchester City has deployed a Wi-Fi network throughout its stadium and it offers Wi-Fi service free of charge to fans attending matches. According to the Manchester City website, fans can expect download speeds of up to 30 Mbps.
Manchester City is the first Premier League club to deploy a free Wi-Fi network in its stadium. The club is using the network to interact with fans via social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. For example, on the big screens around the stadium, it has shown photos that have been posted on Instagram. Many sports clubs have been deploying Wi-Fi networks in stadiums, notably NBA teams in the US. There are so many ways for sports teams to engage with fans via their Wi-Fi networks and unlike cellular networks, teams have full control over their network and can increase bandwidth if necessary.
