Kenny Bain, founder of Fastline Internet, the ISP responsible for unwiring Vivian, Louisiana and Linden, Texas writes:

Of course, no one is immune to the effects of bad weather, but we faired much better than the telephone and cable companies did. There were poles that were snapped in two and wires all over the place in some parts of town.” Many businesses reported no phone service and a few were still without electricity hours after the storms swept through. However, Fastline clients were able to use VoIP telephone service to send and receive calls as if nothing had happened.
