With the approval of agreements that will allow two companies to mount wireless access points on street poles, the city of Las Vegas is inching closer to deployment of a municipal wireless network.With the approval of agreements that will allow two companies to mount wireless access points on street poles, the city of Las Vegas is inching closer to deployment of a municipal wireless network.

The city will allow Cheetah Wireless Technologies and ExteNet Systems to rent the poles for annual rates starting at $1,032 per pole and 5 percent of retail sales revenue.

The city and surrounding ClarkCounty are expected next month to receive the results of a study for a wireless network that would cover the Las VegasValley.
